“Tagarela” Biography:
Jonatas Gurgel is a highly accomplished and respected martial artist with an impressive array of achievements . His dedication, skill, and unwavering passion have propelled him to the pinnacle of success in both traditional martial arts and mixed martial arts (MMA).
Tagarela was a very active child, born on April 11, 1986, in Goiânia, State of Goiás, Brazil.
He started training Jiu Jitsu when he was 12 as a way to exert his extra energy. Tagarela was a very active child, and although he didn’t appreciate the common sports (soccer, swimming, etc) he loved martial arts films. It was because of that fondness for the action movies that his parents registered Jonatas in Cristiano Costa’s BJJ School.
Throughout his career, Jonatas has secured numerous prestigious titles, including being a two-time World Cup Champion in 2004 and 2005, a three-time Pan American Champion in 2002, 2004, and 2005, and a four-time Brazilian National Champion in 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2007. His remarkable talent and work ethic have also earned him World Bronze Medals in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
